Internship: Skau interned with Hamilton Point Investments, LLC, in acquisitions, investor relations and asset management. Her work focused on financial and market analysis, valuation and financing and closing of HPI acquisitions. She worked with the equity, acquisitions and property management teams to gain knowledge in many different departments to see what they do, and how they work with each other. Skau also provided administrative support to the director of investor relations and interacted with the firm’s 3,000+ existing investors and corresponded with investors and advisors regarding the firm’s funds and statements.

How HPU helped you get there: “I got this internship through a personal connection, however, what equipped me with the skills to succeed, be brought on for two additional summers and obtain a job after graduation was the variety of classes offered at HPU. I worked in acquisitions, investor relations, finance, administration and sat in on meetings and phone calls with the co-founders because of the experiences from my classes. That foundation of understanding behind each area of business was huge in my success at this internship. HPU’S1924 PRIMElearning lab prepared me on how to eat in a business setting. I was always taught growing up how to properly dine in formal and informal settings, but PRIME adjusted minor common mistakes, reinforcing and teaching me even more about etiquette.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was my freshman Success Coach, Dr. Akir Khan. He was always there when I had a question and did whatever he needed to make sure I was happy and on the right track.”

What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “My internship was an incredible experience, and working with them for three summers has given me such a diverse, but focused, view of the company. It gave me the opportunity not to just see the day-to-day office activities, but see how the company changed from year-to-year, which in my opinion, is just as important as the day-to-day. Interns do not always get to see what really goes on behind the scenes or how those small or large tasks really do change the future of the company, but I had the opportunity at Hamilton Point Investments.”
